ButterflyYou:
Empowering Youth to Spread Their Wings AND Fly!
Founded in 2020 on the cusp of the COVID-19 pandemic by two Odessa natives, ButterflyYou has swiftly grown into a beacon of hope and opportunity for the youth. Recognizing the transformative power of experiences, ButterflyYou is a 501(c) non-profit organization dedicated to curating impactful experiences for young individuals, equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to embrace life's opportunities.
At ButterflyYou, we believe in nurturing the potential of the youth and preparing them to navigate life with confidence and purpose. Our annual campaigns, fundraisers, workshops, and events are designed to provide a platform for growth and learning. Through these initiatives, our youth gain valuable insights, develop essential life skills, and foster a sense of resilience.
In 2024, our theme revolves around "Emerge from the Cocoon and Fly without Fear," symbolizing the courage and determination we aim to instill in our young participants. Our website showcases the past campaigns and the impact created, serving as a testament to the transformative nature of our programs. For those inspired by our vision, the option to contribute through donations or purchase exclusive ButterflyYou merchandise, such as T-shirts, is available on our website.
As we continue to spread our wings and reach new heights, ButterflyYou remains committed to empowering the youth, fostering a generation unafraid to embrace their full potential and soar towards their dreams.
The Fruits of our Labor, where YOU see your hardwork payoff.
Fruits of Our Labor is 2024 initiative designed to teach the youth business acumen. ButterflyYou is collaborating with a small local business every quarter to work a pro-bono project. If you know of any small businesses in need of assistance with new projects. Please have them email butterflyyou@gmail.com
For the month of October, ButterflyYou offered Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirts for sale. In line with our commitment to supporting breast cancer survivors, a portion of the proceeds from the t-shirt sales were used to benefit survivors of this disease. We want to express our gratitude for contributing to this cause and helping us empower breast cancer survivors to embrace their strength and resilience. Your support is truly appreciated.
I AM The First.
I
Honoring Verna Mae Givens: The I AM the First Campaign. Verna Mae Givens a resilient soul, who defied the odds of her time and worked tirelessly to pursue an education that wasn't easily accessible to many during the Jim Crow Era. Despite the prevailing norms of children working in the fields instead of attending school, Verna Mae Givens courageously voiced her desire to seek an education at just 5 years old. With the reluctant consent of her parents, she embarked on the path to a brighter future for herself and her siblings. Leaving behind her rural home at 17, Verna Mae Givens set out in pursuit of higher education.
AM
Her journey led her to obtain a degree as a licensed drug counselor, a significant achievement in a time when access to education was limited, particularly for African American individuals. She became the first in her family of 16 to attend and graduate from college, carving a path of inspiration for future generations. Even on her deathbed, Verna Mae Givens remained an unwavering advocate for education, fervently emphasizing its importance to all who would listen. Her legacy continues to resonate, and in her honor, the I AM the First Campaign has been established. This initiative aims to mentor and guide young individuals in Midland-Odessa and Dallas-Fort Worth, supporting them in preparing for college through assistance with applications, selection of schools, and organizing college tours.
